Scholarship Description: The Ford Fellowship program will award approximately 60 predoctoral fellowships. Predoctoral fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC) on behalf of the Ford Foundation. The awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Selection criteria: Applications will be evaluated by panels of distinguished scholars selected by the National Academies. The panels will use academic records, essays, letters of recommendation, the application itself, and other appropriate materials as the basis for determining the extent to which candidates meet the eligibility requirements and the selection criteria. Review panels may also look at additional factors such as the suitability of the proposed institution for the applicant’s plan of graduate study and the likelihood that the applicant will have at least three years remaining before they would receive the Ph.D. including at least one year of course work.

Eligibility:-Applicants should be members of staff of another University or similar institution outside the UK. They should hold a Ph.D., or be working at post-doctoral level.
-The Managers will give preference to scholars with a distinguished research profile and who have active research interests in an area or areas of scholarship falling within the remit of the Smuts Fund as specified above.

The Fellow will have access, by agreement, to the holdings of Faculty and Departmental libraries, to the libraries of the Centres of African Studies and South Asian Studies and to the University Library, which houses the extensive collection of materials relating to the history of the British Empire and Commonwealth formerly housed in the Royal Commonwealth Society Library in London.

Eligibility:-You are a national of Seychelles.
-You must not be more than 50 years of age at the date of your application.
-You must have at least three (3) years’ relevant post graduate work experience. This work experience must be in a role relevant to your proposed field of study and to your employment organisation type (e.g. public sector applicants should demonstrate public sector work experience, and so on). Preference will be given to candidates with greater periods of experience.
-You possess, as a minimum, Bachelors degree (or the equivalent) from a recognised Institution of at least 3 years in length with a 2nd Class Lower Division or a grade of 12 out of 20 (60%). Note that entrance to a Masters degree in specialised medical studies will normally require you to have an appropriate first degree with strong academic results.
-Applicants for Masters in Psychology must normally possess an appropriate first degree and present evidence of membership of an appropriate professional body.
-You must have a minimum English language proficiency equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 5.0 with no band score lower than 4.5. (equivalent TOEFL scores are also accepted). Those with overall scores of lower than 6.5 who are selected for an award will be supported to undertake between 3 and 9 months pre-course English language training and will need to achieve a score of 6.5 at the end of this training with no band score lower than 6.
- You must not already hold, or be studying for, a Masters degree.

2013-2014 Ontario Graduate Scholarships for Canadian and Foreign Students at University of Ottawa in Canada

Eligibility: In order to be considered for an OGS, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1.Citizenship
-be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person [under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act (Canada)] at the time of the OGS application deadline date.
-foreign students who are studying in Ontario under a temporary resident visa  or student study permit, under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted international student awards.  Applicants who do not have a valid temporary resident visa or student study permit at the time of application will be required to provide proof of a valid one at the time of taking up the award.
2.Registration
-be enrolled in, or plan to enrol in a graduate program for the 2013-2014 academic year at the University of Ottawa.
-full-time or part-time student status is at the time of application not a factor.
-if applying for funding for a master’s program, applicants cannot have completed more than 4 terms of their master’s program at the time of taking up the award.
-if applying for funding for a PhD program, applicants cannot have completed more than 13 sessions of their PhD program at the time of taking up the award.
3.Minimum Academic Requirements-The applicant must, at minimum, meet the following OGS academic requirements:
-If entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of application the applicant must have an overall average of at least A-, which is equivalent to a GPA of at least 8.0/10 at the University of Ottawa, on the last 20 one-term/semester courses completed at the time of application.
-If entering the third year of graduate studies at the time of application the applicant must have an overall average of at least A-, which is equivalent to a GPA of at least 8.0/10 at the University of Ottawa, on all graduate courses completed
-at the time of application.
-If master’s or doctoral degree marks used for calculating an applicant’s GPA are not available (e.g. courses were graded on a pass-fail basis), then the last 20 one-term/semester most recently available university marks will be used to calculate an applicant’s GPA.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of  Canada can apply for this scholarship and foreign students who are studying in Ontario under a temporary resident visa  or student study permit, under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted international student awards. Applicants who do not have a valid temporary resident visa or student study permit at the time of application will be required to provide proof of a valid one at the time of taking up the award.

Scholarship Description: Since 1975, Ontario, in partnership with Ontario’s publicly-assisted universities, has encouraged excellence in graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels through the awarding of Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS). OGS awards are merit-based scholarships available to students in all disciplines of academic study.  The OGS program is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and Ontario universities. 

Value and duration of scholarship: An OGS is valued at a maximum of $15,000 annually ($5,000 per term) and must be held for a minimum of two consecutive terms with a full-time student status.   Awards can be taken up either in May 2013, September 2013 or January 2014.

Notification: Applicants will be notified no later that April 30, 2013.

Tenure of award: Awards for doctoral study are tenable for a maximum of three years full-time and five years part-time subject to satisfactory progress. Awards for Masters study are tenable for between 9-12 months full-time and 12-24 months part-time.

What does it cover:
The type of AHRC scholarship awarded is based on an applicant’s residency status. UK applicants and EU applicants who have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years immediately preceding the start of their course are eligible for the full scholarship. This pays:
the standard UK/EU tuition fees
an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK research rate, currently £13,590 for Doctoral students, £9,490 for Research Preparation Masters students, and £8,845 for Professional Preparation Masters students.
Doctoral students are entitled to apply for additional funds to support fieldwork and conference attendance.
EU applicants who have not been resident in the UK for 3 years immediately preceding the start of their course are eligible for a fees-only award, paying the standard UK/EU tuition fees only.
International applicants are not eligible for AHRC funding.
