2013 Call for Applications: SICRISA Fellowships for Researchers in South Asia

Applications are invited for a two year SICRISA (Support to Improve Climate Research and Information Services in South Asia) project which is funded by the UK Department for International Development. This project is available for the researchers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan who are working on any aspect of climate change research. 20 fellowships are available and 15 participants will be selected for each of two writing workshops which will be held in April-May 2013 in Delhi and Dhaka. Interested applicants can apply either for a residential workshop or a fellowship but not for both.

Scholarship can be taken at: South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan), writing workshops will take place in India(Delhi) and Bangladesh(Dhaka).

Eligibility: Applicants must -be a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan and be resident in one of those countries.
-be working on climate change, preferably in relation to the South Asia region (which may extend beyond the four focus countries to other parts of South Asia), or, if appropriate, doing work on climate change beyond the region;
-be involved in a project on climate change that will produce a draft paper that can potentially be submitted for publication during the research leave enabled by the Fellowship.
-
have excellent English in order to benefit from the fellowship or writing workshop, and to have an enhanced chance of success in publishing in an English-language journal.
-be committed to working with a mentor before, during and after the Fellowship, to complete the paper, and see it through the publications process.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students of India Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan can apply for this fellowship.

Scholarship Description:Climate change researchers from South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan) are invited to apply to participate in a new fellowship programme or a residential writing workshop to be held in South Asia in 2013. Through fellowships and residential writing workshops, South Asian scientists (including social scientists) will be trained and supported to:-Publish in peer reviewed journals-Write for different types of publication aimed at a range of audiences-Increase their influence on policy-Raise the profile of their research through the media.

The project is managed by a group of four institutions, all with considerable experience of capacity-building activities (including running writing workshops and supporting and mentoring authors for various types of publications), producing and editing special issues of journals on climate related issues, and working with scientists and the media to improve communication and understanding. These are Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK (lead partner), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Sweden, International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), Bangladesh

Number of award(s): 20 fellowships are available, and 15 participants will be selected for each of two writing workshops.

Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to applicants who score well on the relevant criteria:
-have a research activity that can be considered for support to produce a publication during the period of the Fellowship. The quality of the research and proposed paper will be the main criteria for successful application.
-are in early or mid-career. Those in more senior positions may apply if they can demonstrate that it would significantly increase their contribution to science through peer review publication;
-have already demonstrated capacity to publish by having appeared in a non-international journal, working paper or other format;
- (where relevant) have recently completed a doctoral thesis from which a publication is a significant possibility

How to Apply: Applicants should apply by downloading the Application Form for fellowships(Word doc) or Application Form for writing workshops (Word doc) and submit it by email to sicrisa@ids.ac.uk. Applications must be in Word or similar format and must not be converted to PDF.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The deadline for  fellowship applications is 15th February 2013. Deadline for applications for the residential workshops is 31 January 2013.
