Queen of the Festival Scholarships for High School Seniors in USA, 2015

North Fair Oaks Community Festival is awarding scholarships for high school seniors to attend an accredited university, college or institution of higher learning in San Mateo County. Eligible applicants must live or attend school in San Mateo County; be university-bound with excellent academic and community service credentials; and must submit a community involvement essay and two letters of recommendation reflecting community involvement. A total of $23,000 will be awarded in scholarships this year. The application deadline is April 6, 2015.

Eligibility:

-Must have performed voluntary community service.
-Recommended minimum GPA of 2.5
-Must either live or attend school in San Mateo County.
-Must turn in two letters of recommendation reflecting community involvement.

Scholarship Description: The Queen of the Festival scholarship program announces its ninth year of supporting youth in furthering their higher education. Five high school seniors will compete for the Queen title and $23,000 in scholarships. The Queen of the Festival scholarship program promotes community service and is open to high school seniors who will be attending university, college or an institution of higher learning. Applicants must live or attend school in San Mateo County; be university-bound with excellent academic and community service credentials; and must submit a community involvement essay and two letters of recommendation reflecting community involvement. There is no gender restriction.

Number of award(s): There are five scholarships available for high school seniors.

Duration of award(s): Competitive fund raising between the five finalists will be from April 18 to August 3, 2015. All activities will be fully supported by the scholarship program committee, composed of local business and community leaders and representatives of the Office of the Sheriff of San Mateo County. Winners will have all coronation regalia donated.

What does it cover? A total of $23,000 will be awarded in scholarships this year.
-The top scholarship award is $10,000
-One finalist will receive a $6,000 scholarship
-One finalist will receive a $4,000 scholarship
-One finalist will receive a $2,000 scholarship
-One finalist will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Selection Criteria: Queen of the Festival Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholarship, community service, a short, written essay and a face-to-face interview with the scholarship committee. Winners will be determined by two criteria â€"1) their success in supporting the festival through raffle ticket sales, and 2) participation in the scholarship program.

Notification: Scholarship applicants will be invited to an interview on the evening of Wednesday, April 15. Applicants will be notified by phone and in writing if their application has qualified for an oral interview with scholarship program committee.

How to Apply: Completed applications must be received by mail, fax or email. A completed application package must include:
-Application Form
-Two letters of recommendation.
-Essay on community involvement, 300 â€" 350 words in length to address the following questions: How do I view the North Fair Oaks community and my relationship with it?; Why do I want to represent the North Fair Oaks community as its Queen of the Festival? and If I become Queen, what will I do to continue my involvement with this community?

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline for the Queen of the Festival scholarship is April 6, 2015.
