Eligibility:To be considered for an ICGC Scholar Fellowship, applicants must:
- hold at least a Bachelor’s degree;
- have applied to a graduate degree at the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota as follows: students entering doctoral programs in the Colleges of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences; Biological Sciences; Liberal Arts; Education and Human Development; and the School of Public Health; and students entering master’s programs in the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and the School of Public Health;
-receive a nomination for these fellowships by the department or college in which they will be enrolled; and
- gain admittance to a graduate degree program (as described above) by fall 2013.

Scholarship Description: ICGC seeks qualified candidates for ICGC Scholar Fellowships by means of departmental nomination. Nominees should have backgrounds and interests which identify them as outstanding students who are clearly committed to the interdisciplinary study of the global south in the context of global change. We encourage nomination of exceptionally capable students, especially but not only from the global south and U.S. communities of color.

Objective of the Scholarship: ICGC Scholar Fellowships is offered to all  capable Students  in the field of Masters and Doctoral.
The Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC) seeks to foster an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural community of faculty and students committed to studying global change, especially as seen in the global south and in communities of color within North America. It addresses issues of peace, international cooperation and conflict, security, social and environmental change, human rights and justice. Research and education encouraged by the Center focus on four broad dimensions of contemporary world society: global governance and transnational norms; environmental sustainability and social justice; war and peace in historical context; and the production, performance and
representation of identities. Study of these issues may include local, national and transnational dimensions.

Tenure of award:Four years

Value: Awards vary in amount and duration, up to $20,000 in the first year of study. Transportation costs to Minnesota are not covered. The student’s home department is expected to guarantee support in the form of 50% teaching or research assistantships in the second and third year of study, and tuition and health insurance benefits for four years. Upon successful completion of all coursework and of oral and written doctoral qualifying examinations, ICGC will provide a minimum of $10,000 in dissertation
research year support.

Others Benifits:
In addition, recipients of ICGC Scholar Fellowships who are in Ph.D. programs are eligible to enter a competition for ICGC Pre-dissertation Research Grants to undertake preliminary exploratory travel to the area of their proposed dissertation research. Students pursuing professional Master’s degrees (and in some cases, students pursuing the Ph.D.) are eligible to apply for ICGC International Internship Awards to help defray costs of international travel and housing if they choose to intern with an organization working on global issues. The minimum award for both pre-dissertation and internship grants will be $3,000.

How to Apply: Students interested in a fellowship and seeking their department’s nomination should:
- Send a completed Request for Departmental Nomination form along with their application for admission to graduate study to the department or school of intended enrollment (generally before midDecember 2012); AND Send a completed Notification of Interest form and personal statement of interest directly to ICGC
