Eligibility:
Applicants should have a PhD in Engineering, Physics or related disciplines. They should also have excellent expertise in developing microfluidic devices, a strong interest in conducting collaborative research, a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and a strong interest in developing next-generation technologies for the biosciences. The task will require creativity, perseverance, hands-on laboratory skills, as well as communication and team-working skills for this multi-disciplinary project.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Â The students of UK can apply.
Scholarship Description: The UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering wishes to appoint a post-doctoral research associate with a strong background in microfluidics to develop technology for applications in synthetic biology and regenerative medicine. The successful applicant will develop and apply microfluidic technology to establish parallelised microfluidic bioreactors. These will be applied in a range of different bioassays, such as field-based toxin detection, characterisation of de novo engineered cells, and optimisation of stem cell growth conditions. This will facilitate the rapid acquisition of high-content biological data with the required statistical depth. The project will draw upon existing custom microfluidic designs, which include opto-electronic sensors for the on-line detection of process variables, and which have been fabricated and characterised for bacterial fermentation and stem cell culture. The post offers an exciting opportunity for someone with strong microfluidic skills to learn about biological and bioprocessing applications.
