2013 Rosalind Franklin Fellowships for Female Students for Pursuing Research in the field of Medical and Life Sciences at University of Groningen and University Medical Center Groningen in Netherlands

Eligibility:
- We are looking primarily for creative, independent women in industry, academia or research institutes who have a PhD and aim for a career towards full professorship in a European top research university.
- The fellowship offers career opportunities to work in international leading milieus and is only awarded to outstanding researchers.
- Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent, externally funded research program in collaboration with colleagues at the UMCG, our university and elsewhere

Scholarship Description: To promote the advancement of talented international researchers at the highest level of its institution, the University of Groningen has initiated a prestigious Fellowship Programme, named after the outstanding female scientist Rosalind Franklin, whose x-ray studies were crucial to understanding the structure of DNA. This ambitious programme has been running since 2007 ,The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is linked to the University of Groningen (RUG). Research, teaching, training and patient care are closely integrated. Research facilities are excellent. The UMCG’s mission is ‘Building the Future of Health’ with research on Healthy Ageing as its main focus. Research is embedded in the UMCG research institutes: GUIDE (drug research and chronic diseases in relation to ageing), Oncology, SHARE (Health research), BCN-Brain (ageing brain), and Kolff Institute (biomaterials for the elderly).

Number of awards offered: 6 Scholarships are offered.

Tenure of award: It is applicable up to ten years.

Value: Total offer is of  € 3,365 gross per month (full time position) depending on experience and qualifications, a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus. Fellows are also granted an additional start-up package, worth around € 200.000.

Other Benefits: After an additional seven years, with excellent scientific progress, a full professorship will follow.
