2013 Chevening Cambridge Scholarships for Sri Lankan/Maldives Students to Pursue Masters or One-year Taught Postgraduate Course at the University of Cambridge in UK

Study Subject(s): Study subjects are Human Rights,Conflict Prevention/Development Studies and Governance/Public Administration.

Eligibility:-Only citizens of Sri Lanka and Maldives are eligible for the scholarship.  The awards are targeted at students who meet the Chevening criteria of academic excellence, high motivation and potential leadership qualities, and who can fulfil the rigorous admission criteria of the University of Cambridge.
-Any Masters or one-year taught postgraduate course at the University of Cambridge will be eligible, but priority will be given to courses in the Human Rights,Conflict Prevention / Development Studies and Governance / Public Administration fields.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of Sri Lanka and Maldives can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description:The Chevening Scholarship Scheme is the UK’s most prestigious scholarship scheme for foreign students.  Its aim is to enable current and future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers to study in the UK and make a positive contribution to their own countries upon their return.  Many former Chevening scholars have gone on to be leaders in their fields, and indeed, even leaders of their countries.

Number of awards offered: Up to two Sri Lanka / Maldives Chevening Cambridge Scholarships may be awarded in 2013-14.

Value: Each scholarship will cover the tuition fee and approved College fee in Cambridge, and a stipend for the duration of the course that is sufficient for a single person.  The scholarship may also include other expenses such as return travel to/from the UK.  Each scholarship offer will clearly state the terms.If the course applied for is either the MBA or MFin, for which significantly higher fees are charged, only part of the tuition fee will be paid by the scholarship, and the recipient will need to find the balance of the fee from their own resources.  Again, each scholarship offer will clearly state the fee that will be covered by the scholarship.

Selection Criteria:The British High Commission in Colombo will invite shortlisted candidates to interview in February 2013. Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who have been successful at interview, and who have been offered admission to the University of Cambridge.Successful candidates will be notified by April/May 2013, and will need to fulfil any outstanding conditions of their admission to the University (such as proof of English language skills) before applying for their student visa.

Notification: Successful candidates will be notified by April/May 2013.
