Scholarship Description: The Fulbright Awards Programme is the only organisation that offers scholarships for academic work in any subject, at any accredited US university. In this Award category, generously supported by the Scottish Government, up to three grants are offered to UK academics, artists or professionals to undertake lecturing, carry out research relating to Scottish Studies, and develop institutional links with any accredited US institution(s) for a period of three to eight months. Candidates choose and make arrangements with US host insitutions directly and independently. What it covers:Fulbright Awards offer generous financial support for academic projects in the US. However, Fulbright is much more than a grant â€" we offer scholars the opportunity to have a transformative cultural and educational experience and provide unrivaled support both during and after their Fulbright year. Grants in this category are for $5,000 per month and are paid in instalments directly to the grantee, the first of which is typically given just prior to departure from the UK. This funding is intended as a contribution towards any institutional fees, travel to/from the US, accommodation and general maintenance costs while in the US. A number of memberships, sickness and accident benefit coverage, and visa sponsorship are also included. There is substantial pre-departure support, including a Finalists Workshop (March) and a 3-day Orientation Programme (July). Once on-the-ground in the US, further support is offered by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), including additional travel grant opportunities to accept guest lecturing invitations at other US institutions.
