Technical University of Denmark announces PhD positions in terabit/s optical regeneration. Two positions are awarded for the period of three years. The applicants applying for the position should have a masterâs degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the masterâs degree in engineering. The application must be received no later than December 31, 2012. The positions are available with start from February 1st  2013.
Study Subject(s): Technical University of Denmark offers position in terabit/s optical regeneration
Course Level: Â This scholarship is available for pursuing PhD degree.
Scholarship Provider:Â Technical University of Denmark
Scholarship can be taken at: Denmark
Eligibility:Â The candidate should have a masterâs degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the masterâs degree in engineering. The candidate must have the ability to work independently when planning and carrying out complicated tasks. Furthermore â" good communication skills within written and spoken English.
Scholarship Open for International Students:Â Danish students can apply for this position.
Scholarship Description:Â In this project, non-linear optics will be explored for the design of novel techniques for optical regeneration. One of the main goals of the project is to demonstrate the first optical regeneration of DWDM data with Terabit/s capacity. The project will build upon recent progress in the High-Speed Optical Communications Group at DTU Fotonik. In particular, optical Fourier transformation will be investigated. The project will mainly explore the Kerr non-linearity in optical fibres, but will also have the opportunity to employ non-linear silicon nanowires, newly developed at DTU Fotonik.
PhD 1:Â Develop optical regeneration designs for amplitude-modulated optical data signals. Optimise optical Fourier transformation for conversion between parallel (DWDM) and serial data, based on four-wave mixing processes. Demonstrate regeneration and extended transmission reach for amplitude-modulated DWDM data with capacities up to 1 Terabit/s.
PhD 2:Â Develop optical regeneration designs for multi-level phase-modulated optical data signals, in particular by exploring phase-sensitive parametric amplification schemes. Demonstrate regeneration and extended transmission reach for phase-modulated DWDM data with capacities above 1 Terabit/s, by combining the developed regeneration designs with optical Fourier transformation.
Number of Awards:Â 2 Â positions are awarded.
Duration of award(s): PhD is awarded for the period of 3 years.
What does it Cover: The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
How to Apply: Completed application should be submitted online.
Scholarship Application Deadline: The application must be received no later than December 31, 2012
