2013/14 PhD Jameel Scholarship for UK and EU Students at Cardiff University in UK

Cardiff University is pleased to announce one scholarship for UK and EU students who satisfy UK residency requirements. Applications are invited for PhD (full-time) scholarships starting in the academic year 2013-14. The award duration is for three years. Students applying for a PhD scholarship should have completed Master’s degree or similar postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject from a UK university. The application deadline is 15 March 2013.

Eligibility:
-Those applying for a PhD scholarship should have, or be studying for, a Master’s degree or similar postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject (Religious Studies, Islamic Studies, Social Sciences, Philosophy or History) from a UK university.  In exceptional circumstances, applicants with only a BA degree will be considered.
-Full awards are open only to UK and EU nationals who satisfy UK residency requirements
-Evidence of a clear ambition to develop a career in the area of Islam and Muslims in Britain
-Familiarity with, and/or proven competence in, the use of qualitative research methods and associated data analysis techniques
-Demonstrable record of interest in, and/or enthusiasm for, working with British Muslims
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Preference may be given to those who will reside full-time in Cardiff

Scholarship Description: The Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK (Islam-UK Centre) at Cardiff University is pleased to invite applications for the Cardiff University Jameel Scholarships. One scholarship is available for start in October 2013. With the help of a very generous gift to the University, the Jameel Scholarships have been established to enable the very best students to come to Cardiff â€" those who have the intellect and determination to apply their knowledge for the benefit of Muslim communities in the UK, and to promote better understanding of Islam in wider society.

Number of awards offered: 1 Scholarship is awarded.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is awarded for 3 years.

What does it Covers? Each PhD scholarship will comprise:
-Full-time Cardiff University PhD fees for 3 years, starting in the academic year 2013-14
-Stipend of approx. £16000 per year
-Research allowance
