Eligibility:
Applicants must have a MSc (or equivalent) in biology/ecology and a strong, well documented interest in evolutionary biology (e.g. projects, courses, publications in the field). Special interest in the evolution of life-histories and/or sexual selection is a plus. Familiarity with statistical analyses using R and lab experience with nematodes and insects will be seen as a benefit. The working atmosphere is international with English as working language. EBC constitutes an exciting arena for multidisciplinary research in evolutionary biology in a broad sense, with research programs including ecology, systematics, genetics, genomics, and developmental biology.

Scholarship Open for International Students:  The scholarship is open for Sweden Students

Scholarship Description: The project will focus on within- and trans-generational effects of condition-dependence and non-genetic inheritance on the expression and evolution of ageing in males and females. The project will combine experimental work in laboratory with established inverterbrate model systems (nematodes, stilt-legged flies) and the analyses of existing data on many years of brood size manipulation experiments in pied flycatchers. Depending on student’s interests, there is an opportunirty to expand the physiological aspect of this project by using state-of-the art respirometry equipment for small animals. The main objective is to get a general understanding of the expression and evolution of sexual dimoprhism in lifespan and reproductive ageing across taxa.

Tenure of awards: This position is financed for four full years

Value: The successful candidate will receive a postgraduate fellowship the first year (15.500 SEK/month) and a postgraduate position year 2-4 (23.300 â€" 26.400 SEK/month).
